Anchs 1st xi 5 sutton valence 1st xi 4
A great performance from Anchs saw them earn 3 points away on Saturday. With a bare eleven Anchs knew it was going to be a tough game. Despite making a good start Anchs fell one behind from a penalty corner. At this stage Anchs stepped up their game and were soon 3-1 up with a goal from Dan Mutton and two from Callum Harris. Captain Gareth Price took a ball to the head and Rob Dixon badly hurt his ankle and so for the last 10 minutes of the half Anchs basically played with nine. During this time SV drew level from two well worked penalty corners. 3-3 at half time. Fair play to Rob Dixon who played the second half with one leg and even managed to score from a great strike but not before Callum Harris had completed his hat trick. SV did manage other goal from a penalty corner to set up a nervy ending. However the Anchs back three of Gary Jackson, Gareth Price and Chris Lack defended well to see Anchs home. Next week it’s Eastbourne at home at 12.
Anchs 1st xi 1 Worthing 3.
Anchs welcomed top of the table Worthing to Brompton Academy on Saturday. With Anchs new pitch being put down, Anchs struggled to get to terms with an alien pitch from the start. Failing to clear the D gave Worthing the lead with their forward slotting home and by half time it was two nil with Worthing again being gifted a goal as Anchs could clear the D. Two good clearances by Luc De Bont and Mike Cotton saved Anchs further. After some harsh at half time Anchs matched Worthing in the second half. Worthing managed to grab a third and only a few good saves from keeper Darren Richardson kept the score down. However eventually Anchs did get on top and scored from a short corner only for the umpire to blow his whistle and award another penalty corner. However Anchs did not stop attacking and Chris Risby nutmegged the Worthing keeper to give Anchs a deserved goal. Next week a tough game away to Sutton Valence awaits.
Anchs 1st xi 6 Horsham 3
Anchs made the journey to Horsham for what was always going to be a tough game. Last season Anchs had been beaten six nil so were keen for revenge. Despite turning up two hours before the game Anchs were in good spirits despite only having a bare eleven. The game started evenly and it was the home side who took the lead. Anchs hit back immediately following a good team goal and by half time it was two all and very even. With the wind behind them in the second half Anchs were dominant. Within seconds it was 3-2 and soon excellent team play saw Anchs go 5-2 up. Horsham gave themselves a glimmer of hope by grabbing a third but again Anchs’ forwards were too good and soon it was 6-3. Dan Mutton got four goals, Callum Harris got 1 as did Chris Risby. Credit also needs to go to Anchs midfield of Rob Dixon, Chris Lack, Luc Debont and Jake Stevens who never stopped running and to the back four of goalkeeper Darren Richardson and Rich Perkins, Gary Jackson and Gareth Price who defended brilliantly all afternoon. Next week top of the table Worthing come to town for a mouth watering clash!
