A vital 3 points that keeps Anchs season alive. Anchs travelled to Crowborough with only 12 men and came away with 3 well deserved points. A good team talk and warm up saw Anchs made a positive start to the game. Callum Harris put Anchs one up with a reserve stick strike from the top of the D. Crowborough came back into the game and only great defending from Gareth Price and Ali Jenner kept Anchs one up. Great team work then saw the ball land with Chris Risby who hit a rocket into the bottom corner to give Anchs a two goal lead at half time. In all honesty the second half was all Crowborough. Crowborough were given a glimmer of hope when they pulled one back at the start of the second half but a fantastic counter attack move saw the opposition keeper take out Mati Puche who slotted home the resulting penalty stroke to make it 3-1. Despite late pressure and numerous short corners, a combination of excellent saves from Darren Richardson and brave running from Chris Risby and Chris Lack kept the opposition out. Overall a superb team effort!
Anchs poor form and season continued with an empathic home defeat to South Saxons. A superb team talk and warm up set Anchs up well and despite the opposition having a lot of the ball Anchs defended well. However a poor give away and inept marking saw South Saxons take the lead. However this seemed to galvanise Anchs who soon levelled with Gareth Price slotting home from a penalty corner. However with two minutes Anchs were 2-1 down and by half time it was 3-1. Anchs started the second half well and Chris Lack was unfortunate to have a goal ruled out. Again Anchs were punished for giving the ball away, not tracking back and slack marking allowing the opposition to score twice more. A very frustrating day indeed!
Dissapointing is an understatement. This was a must win for Anchs against the bottom of the league side but in all honesty Anchs got what they deserved due to a poor game performance. The first half saw Anchs lose the midfield battle and awful give always saw Anchs go a goal down. However when Anchs woke up and actually played hockey for 5 minutes they equalised through Chris Risby. A superb double save from keeper Darren Richardson kept Anchs in it but just before half time poor marking saw New Beccs take a 2-1 lead. The second half was pretty even. Captain Gareth Price received a harsh green card and New Beccs scored from the resulting penalty corner. However Mati Puche pulled one back with from a penalty corner. With two minutes to go Anchs went for broke and played with a kicking back but New Beccs slotted home a 4th to seal the win. The only real positive of the day were the teas after. Much work is needed if Anchs are to stay in the league.
